Richard Falk is professor of international law at Princeton University and the UN’s special rapporteur (a person appointed by a deliberative body to investigate an issue or a situation and report to that body) on the Palestinian territories. On Dec 14, while leading a mission to visit the West Bank and Gaza to prepare a report on Israel’s compliance with human rights standards and international humanitarian law, he was held at Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv, taken to a locked tiny room that smelled of urine and filth, detained for 15 hours, and finally denied entry.
