Beta testing “Walking Melbourne” podcast

Posted on 31. Dec, 2007 by in Melbourne, The Podcast Network, TPN

Last month I recorded a couple of pilot episodes of a new podcast series where I walk around Melbourne with one of the City of Melbourne’s “greeters”, Jill. This is a project cooked up between myself, Tourism Victoria and the City of Melbourne. We’ve recorded two pilots and I’d really appreciate it if a few of you in Melbourne would grab these and do the walk while you listen to the podcast and then give me feedback on how well it works.

The first tour takes us through Melbourne’s seedy past and is called “Politics, Prostitutes and Poverty”. The second, “Lingering in Laneways” takes us down some of Melbourne’s hidden laneways to discover some of the best kept secret bars, shops and restaurants.

Get both of them at TPN’s Melbourne Confidential site.

Innocent Until Proven Guilty

parking

A couple of months ago I got a letter in the mail attached to a parking infringement notice claiming I had double parked out of the front of my kids’ school one morning and fining me $66.

Now I don’t remember ever double parking. So I sent them a letter asking for clarification. They sent me the above letter. Basically it says “well you did it so pay up or else”.

I just sent them a follow up email which states:

I am unfortunately unable to accept your assertion that I committed the said offense and respectfully request
evidence to support your claim before I consent to pay the fine. I believe in this country we are still considered innocent until proven guilty.

What do you think they will do? And do you think my position is fair? Should a council just be able to send you fines in the mail without providing evidence of your supposed crime? Or does this fit under the Federal Government’s new terror laws and I can be picked up by ASIO and held for questioning for ten days without even being informed of the charges?

G’DAY WORLD #300 – The End Of Season Three and James Masini from Hippo

Posted on 02. Nov, 2007 by in entrepreneurialism, Melbourne, Melbourne's Leaders, Podcast

Well folks, here we are, 300 episodes and 3 years in, and I’m just getting warmed up! However, with a new year of G’Day World comes a new format, a new topic and a new question which demands The Cam’s attention – what are you doing on a daily basis to make the world a better place? As you’ll hear in today’s show, that is going to be my focus in the Year Four of G’Day World and TPN.

Also on today’s show, I’ve got a recording from MODM 7 where Simon Chen and I chatted with James Masini, 24-year-old Melbourne entrepreneur and founder of Hippo, an online job board to 15 – 24 year-olds. There’s a lot of background noise and we were standing too far away from the mics, but it’s audible and a great story. I hope you don’t mind the low quality. I was using the new Blue Snowball and Macbook for the first time and over-estimated it’s ability to pick us up amid the noise.

Speaking about my new Macbook Pro – it was sponsored by the awesome folks at Global1Training who are also sponsoring my interview from a few months ago with Dr John Demartini. If you didn’t hear that show, I highly recommend it, especially if you’re feeling like you could be getting a little more out of your life. Demartini has some great tips for asking yourself the right questions.

Thanks to everyone who has supported the show over the last three years – I’ve had the time of my life. Three years making this shit for a living. It should almost be illegal.

Become part of the G’Day World conversation.

TPN now has a HQ in Second Life! If you’ve never spent any time in SL, jump in, go to TPN HQ (by clicking this link) and add “Cameron Switchblade” to your friends (that’s me). I’d be happy to show you around and help you find your SL legs.

If you’re a member of Facebook, you can ADD ME AS A FRIEND and then ADD YOURSELF TO THE G’DAY WORLD GROUP.

You can show your love by buying me stuff from my Amazon wish list.

You might DIGG the show.

Melbourne ‘Mission Is Possible’

Posted on 09. Oct, 2007 by in Melbourne

A new chance to win prizes by expressing how much you love Melbourne over on the Visit Melbourne Red Thread site that launched today.
Mission Is Possible
They have five missions to choose from, each one showcasing a particular aspect of Melbourne lifestyle. You have to tell your story with video or photos and a brief review, then add it to The Red Thread forum by 12pm 16/11/07.

Mrs Cameron is one of the creative geniuses behind the site and campaign. Give it your support and win something! I can’t – family not allowed. Bah.

I think this is a great idea though – Tourism Victoria are using UGC to grab real content about Melbourne by people who live here and then put it up on their site. TV get the content for free, the creators get their work displayed on the #1 Melbourne portal, and the audience get to see/read/hear about the best things Melbourne has to offer.

If I was going to enter, I’d be choosing Mission 6 and I’d be devoting myself to the research of discovering the best dirty martini in Melbourne. Anyone want to help with me research?
