I'm an INTP.

Funny, I don't think of N as big picture and S as detail.

I think of N as starting with the big picture then working to detail, and S as starting with detail and gradually building a big picture.

Nice episode. Enjoyed it.

Hey again, for all of those who are surprised by their type as it comes out of the test, don't necessarily take the test at face value. It is possible to be influenced by your surroundings and a small number of cases are typed incorrectly. If you can find someone who knows something about MBTI and understands the types it can be helpful to talk it through with them and "get" to a type intuitively rather than through the test. If something sounds really wrong it normally is...

You could also ask someone close to you whether they perceive you as your type is explained. That can be pretty funny! Sometimes we have characteristics that we don't see!

Well after listening to the show in total and hearing Jane's descriptions of each group I think I do agree with my group after all. Not sure that was what was said on the site but I am happier now than when I was yesterday when I posted.

[...] My friend, Jane Mason (ENTP) is a leading expert on this whole area and as it’s not the kind of thing we cover in-depth at MobHappy, so it seemed a good idea to introduce her to my Aussie pal, Cameron Reilly (INTP), who runs The Podcast Network and the G’Day World Podcast. The result is a fascinating Podcast which you can get via iTunes or from here. [...]

I am ISTP. Had a score of 89 introverted :)

Not sure I totally agree with the description though but I will recheck it when I have more time.

INTJ

That is somewhat true for me. It reminded me of the "would you kill your Grandma test" that I've done several times as a public servant. It is the same question asked several times slightly differently.

I only did a Myers-Briggs test the other day and, like you Cam, was really skeptical until I read the description of my type and found it quite accurate.
I'm an ENFP, but I find the idea of better understanding what motivates others quite interesting (think that fits in with the ENFP profile). Great show.

G'Day everyone and thanks for your comments and questions. I am really glad you enjoyed the show.

The question of the instrument and ageing is a really good one to which there are a couple of different answers. Firstly, Jung would have argued that we "are" a type from birth and that type does not change. Having said that, most people continue to grow throughout their whole lives, developing skills and capabilities (not to mention coping mechanisms!) as they age.

In our 20s we don't generally have the ability to deploy our non-preferred behaviours - in our 30s and 40s we begin to be able to do so. Thus, even a P like me should, in theory, learn to plan and to anticipate (I'm waiting...!), S people shouldlearn to intuit, Ts should develop the ability to think of the impact on others, Es should become more self sufficient, etc.

The extent to which we are able to develop depends on our environment and the extent we are supported by family, friends, and colleagues.

Yeah I did one a few years back and I was an ENTP. The test referred to this as "Each New Thought Propels" and after reading it I became far more aware of my strengths and flaws (self-fulfilling prophecy maybe).

Today I am apparently an INTP. As I've been swarmed by children I've gone from being Extroverted to Introverted. Perhaps I have new strengths and weaknesses to examine.

I wonder if anyone has done a study on the effects of aging on the Jung Type Indicator.

Funny, I did one of these about 18 years ago, and was an ENFP, but now I find myself an ENFJ... I wonder if age has given me a different application of self, being that the difference between the J and the P, perhaps the P being more apt for a young unmarried, childless woman, and then the J of a single mother of a 15 year old, uni student, running my own business...

Great show Cam, thanks heaps.

I'm INTJ.
I was reading the description at http://typelogic.com/intj.html and was laughing all the way through :].
Nice episode!
Got me thinking on the way I approach life in general. It's so hard to understand that some people can have a different mentality and a train of thought.

Cheers,

<i>The Portait of the Inspector (ISTJ)

Inspector Guardians look carefully and thoroughly at the people and institutions around them. Making up perhaps as much as ten percent of the general population, Inspectors are characterized by decisiveness in practical affairs, are the guardians of institutions, and if only one adjective could be selected, "superdependable" would best describe them.
