Tourism Victoria launches User Generated Content site

Tourism Victoria has soft launched their Red Thread site.
Use video, photography, or creative writing to weave a thread that reveals your very own Melbourne adventure.
Submit your thread before June 7 and share in a prize pool of $6,000. We’re giving away $2,000 each for the most creative video, photo or story. The Red Thread will go live on June 12. Check back to see your thread and perhaps be one of the featured winners. Share your unique take on Melbourne here and keep The Red Thread flowing.
Okay I’m pretty proud of this news for a couple of reasons.
First – as far as I know, this is the first large Australian company or government organisation (media companies excepted) to have truly embraced user generated content. Anyone can go up there and write what they like about Melbourne. They can upload photos or videos or just text. That’s pretty bold for a large Government site to get their heads around. Letting the users take control!
Second – my wife, Mrs Cameron, is the one of the key people behind it. She is the web editor at Tourism Vic and has been project managing this since its inception.
So – Melbourne people – please get in there and start writing some threads. Tell them what you love about your town. If for no other reason than you could pocket a couple of grand.
And for a bit of an extra laugh check out the way the Chaser team took the piss out of the Melbourne Red Thread TVC this week.
