G’Day World #237 – The Polyamorous Technomads
Posted on 08. May, 2007 by Cameron Reilly in Podcast
My guests today (from an interview I did late last week) are Chris Dunphy and Cherie Ve Ard.
A year ago, Chris sold up everything he owned, left his apartment in San Francisco, packed what he still owned into a smallish caravan called a “tab”, which happens to be the most techno-fitted out caravan on the planet, and set out on a different kind of un-journey. As he says on his blog:
From the beginning I’ve held the specific intention that this was NOT a trip with some final destination in mind, ending once I reached a certain place or after a certain amount of time had passed. Rather, my goal has been to invent and live a sustainable and fulfilling technomadic lifestyle – living on the road indefinitely.
He is a technologically-enabled nomad or “technomad”.
Through a forum for Prius lovers, he met Cherie and in a few days time they are embarking together on the next indefinite leg of the un-journey.
So they talk to me about the liberating idea of getting rid of your baggage and taking a journey with no end.
Chris and Cherie are also “polyamorous”. To find out what that means, listen to the show!.
Now, one caveat – we chatted over Skype and were both on wifi connections, so the quality is pretty average. I hope you can stick with it though, because they have a terrific story to tell.
